Thousands of New Zealanders have joined with millions around the world to call for an end to poverty.


In 2007, this struggle continues. While small steps have been made, poverty still exists. Developing countries are still making crippling debt repayments. Rich countries are still promoting unfair trade and not meeting their promises on aid.

Make history on October 17

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY
Wednesday, October 17. Add your voice to one of the following events around the country:

Stand up Speak out
Myers Park, Queen St, 12 noon - 1pm
A chance to show your support for making poverty history. MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY's Tennille Bergin will be speaking at the event.

Wellington

A chance to show your support for making poverty history. MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY's Rae Julian will be speaking at the event.



Christchurch

MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD
In May 2007 the voices of thousands of kiwis who made the call to Make Poverty History were presented to New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters. Over 120,000 actions were taking by kiwi's in New Zealand alone calling for our government to play its part in bringing an end to extreme poverty. Peters was asked to ensure New Zealand plays its part in the global movement to MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY.
